The Hidden Snake

Today the morning wears a crown of glowing crystal,

The skies are blue, the gentle rivers run nicely.

A quiet peace the summer gardens hold,

Where flowers bloom beneath the early sun.

/

The trees stand tall, the silent branches sway,

And life seems pretty along the grassy lane.

No shadow warns of what is on the way,

A drowsy hush, devoid of fear and pain.

/

Yet where the dense ferns create an emerald shade,

Beneath the leaves, where darker shadows lie,

A silent threat in heavy coils arrayed

Now slumbers deep, where careless feet go by.

/

A venomous snake king, in peaceful slumber curled,

With painted skin and heavy, resting hood,

Hides quietly within the glowing world,

The sleeping ruler of the quiet wood.

/

It gives no hiss, it gives no warning sign,

Just gentle peace and hidden, deadly power.

It waits where quiet pathways intertwine,

Unseen beneath the beauty of the green.

/

For danger rarely wears a dreadful face;

It often hides where living waters flow.

And what looks sweet within a lovely place

May hold a threat the heart can never know.

/

Yet wisdom walks ahead with open eyes,

It sees beyond the world's enchanting grace.

It holds no fear beneath the summer skies,

Rejoicing still within this living place.

/

For in a world that shines both dark and bright,

Where grace and danger travel side by side,

We walk with wonder in the morning light,

And hope the sleeping snake will safely hide.

"Everything looks beautiful, until you notice the sleeping snake hidden within it."
