Man made Gods
We forged gods from the fires of our fears,
from the darkness that cloaked our questions,
building idols from stone and blood,
placing them high upon the altar of our hopes-
yet in their shadow, we lost our way.
The sky once knew our silent prayers,
but we drew lines in the heavens-
dividing stars, dividing souls,
measuring the worth of a human by the land they claim,
by the faith they wear like armor.
In our pursuit of meaning,
we traded unity for division,
turning sacred texts into swords,
and love into a battleground of names.
Neighbors became enemies,
truth became a weapon,
and mercy was buried beneath the rubble of ideology.
Our streets echo with the hollowness of slogans,
the clang of fists, the roar of anger-
all drowning out the gentle voice of compassion,
all drowning out the quiet plea of the human heart.
God’s blood stains the pavement,
His breath choked by the violence of His followers-
words turned to weapons, prayers turned to bullets,
and sacred banners draped over wounds that bleed in silence.
The devil no longer hides-
he walks among us, smiling,
rewarded for honesty in his wickedness,
while angels weep in the shadows.
Where is the truth amid the procession of lies?
Where is the beauty when ugliness parades in gilded crowns?
Where is the freedom in the cages of our own making-
walls erected from fear, shame, and suspicion?
Once, blood ties bound us-
promises of belonging, of eternity-
now frayed and forgotten,
lost in the chaos of fractured identities.
We wait for saviors, for gods reborn-
but perhaps the salvation we seek
lies in the recognition of our shared human pain,
in the gentle act of remembering that beneath the labels,
we are all fragile, longing to be whole.
Man collapses on the street-
anonymous, unwept-
while religion stands aloof,
clapping at its own illusion of power.
And in the silence of the fallen,
hope whispers softly-
a fragile voice calling us back
to the truth that no god can give,
but only we can reclaim-
the simple, sacred human grace
that still waits beneath the ruins.
