A Step from Shadow

I feel a shadow stretching, cool and slight,
A silent specter in the quiet night.
Fear whispers where the boundary seems to lie,
"Stay here," it hums, "don't stray beneath this sky."

Its voice, a chill that settles in my bone,
A cautious, low and steady undertone.
It begs me not to move, not to go,
A warning wrapped in shades of gray I know.

But I—I feel the bravery take its hold,
A different story waiting to unfold.
I am the bird that soars beyond the steep,
Spreading my wings while fears fall fast asleep.

The edge is just a place for me to grow,
A threshold I must cross and come to know.
With steady grace, I take that crucial pace,
A step toward a brighter, better place.

So when fear points with its trembling hand,
I'll find my courage and choose where I stand.
I am the dawn that breaks the night's dark sea,
A light that guides, a fire that sets me free.
