The Lover Who Never Said It
Whenever pretty girls walk by,
My heart takes off, I wonder why.
One little glance, one passing smile,
And I forget my way for a mile!
When she's nearby, I stand up tall,
But one “Hello” and I lose it all.
I've got big dreams and a charming face,
Yet shyness puts me in my place!
At the metro station, I wait for the train,
Hoping to see her again and again.
The platform is crowded, the minutes crawl,
I watch every face, but I look for one of all.
The train doors open, the passengers flow,
There she stands, and my heartbeat says, “Go!”
I plan to approach her, determined and bold,
Then the doors slide shut, and my story grows old!
I've written love letters, a mountain of pages,
Hidden my feelings in notebooks for ages.
I've typed sweet messages, romantic and true,
Then erased every word before sending to you.
I've written you poems beneath the moonlight,
Composed little songs in the silence of night.
I've practised my confession a thousand times through,
But fear always whispers, “What if she says no to you?”
My drafts hold the words that my lips never say,
My songs know the feelings I hide every day.
I'm brave with a pen, but when you appear,
Even my shadow seems to disappear!
With friends around me, I'm fearless and grand,
Giving love advice like the best in the land.
But when you approach me, my confidence flies,
And I study the floor instead of your eyes!
I rehearse my introduction, all polished and neat,
Then forget my own name when we happen to meet.
I've got a thousand punchlines, a romantic routine,
But the funniest fool is the one you've never seen!
Someday I'll stand beneath bright silver-screen lights,
Singing love songs to cheering crowds every night.
They'll clap for my acting, my dancing, my art,
Never knowing you were the star of my heart.
I'll make the whole theatre laugh and applaud,
Play the fearless lover, the charming heartthrob.
Yet after the curtains fall and the cameras are through,
I'll still be the same shy boy dreaming of you.
Perhaps one day courage will find its way in,
And I'll trade my silence for a chance to begin.
No grand declaration, no cinematic view,
Just three simple words: “I'm in love with you.”
Until that day, let the old trains depart,
Let unsent letters keep guarding my heart.
I've sung to the world, but here's the truth-
I've written a thousand love songs,
But never delivered one to you.
